California Prisoners Denied Meds, Visits During Hunger Strike

California correction officers are harshly retaliating against prisoners who are striking to protest inhumane prison policies, according to recent reports.

Officers are allegedly denying visits from lawyers and family members, and are denying some inmates their medication.

Families of inmates have been denied visits to Pelican Bay, according to Jay Donohue of the Prison Hunger Strike Solidarity Coalition (PHSS), a grassroots group of supporters based in the Bay Area. “Their visits for the weekend were not allowed, and they’ve been told that they won’t be at all until the strike ends,” Donohue told Color Lines.
