After a dueling three set battle this week with Aussie native Samantha Stosur, tennis champ Serena Williams has been ousted from reaching the semi-finals at Roland Garros in Paris for the first time ever since 2003. The loss also eliminates any chance of a calendar year sweep of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments for Williams.
Stosur served for the match at 5-3 in the second set, but ended up losing the tiebreaker as her serve and and forehand she used so successfully during the match began to fade. Nearing the third set, Williams made her patented comeback but the momentum was already in Stosur’s possession. It was an unexpected loss for the great competitor, but Serena, we’re still very proud of you.
