Five-time Wimbledon champion, Venus Williams has advanced to the second round at the All England Club after straight-set victory over Rossana de los Rios of Paraguay with a 6-3, 6-2 dominating win on Monday.
Williams has dominated the Wimbledon single title for much of the last decade, reaching eight of the last 10 finals, and the number two seed (Serena holds the first place seed) looks ready for the long dully battle ahead.
“It’s good to be back. I love playing on the grass,” Venus said. “It was pretty straightforward out there but it’s just the first round and I’ll try to play better with each match.”
After last year’s agonizing defeat to little sis Serena, Venus appears more determined and poised than ever to capture her sixth title on her favorite court.
